We recently returned from a week on the Big Island of Hawaii. What a treat it was to experience the island lifestyle, witness beautiful sunsets, and drink some awesome guava juice!
Through my dad’s company, we were able to enjoy a mostly-paid-for trip to the Big Island. None of us had ever been to this island (and 3 of us had never been to any Hawaiian island), so this made for a unique experience that we won’t soon forget!
Ready to fly!
I managed to find a Burger King in Hawaii! WOOHOO!
Hotel lobby…it didn’t have windows, which made for a sweet breeze!!
View from our cabana room
An overlook of a beach
The whole island had such beautiful and unique vegetation, but we thoroughly enjoyed the scenery of the Akaka Falls rainforest:
I believe this waterfall is about 450 feet tall!
Check out the size of this tree!
The luscious greenery made for some excellent drone footage
Nothing quite like a Hawaiian sunset
One night, we attended a Hawaiian luau. That was a treat! Before the show began, we witnessed the uncovering of a pua’a (pig) which had been buried in a fiery sand pit that morning and had been cooking there all day.
Uncovering the pig
It’s covering. If I remember correctly, these are banana leaves.
This guy basically juggled batons with razor-sharp tips and fire on both ends!
We did a lot of driving around the island on several days. As you can see, the north side is beautifully green with rolling hills. We referred to it as “Scotland”.
One day, we stopped by this cute little side-of-the-road fruit stand.
I tried dragon fruit and boy was it good! So sweet!
Anyone know what kind of spider this is?
This was taken at the southern most point of the U.S.!
These next two pictures were taken on the side of the road on a bridge that shook when cars zoomed by 😬
We made leis with these pua melias (commonly called plumerias)
Beach+breakfast buffets w/ awesome juice=win!
One night Dad and Kerry had to attend a company dinner, so Lauren and I enjoyed room service!
Beachside breakfast 😍
Ahhh what a wonderful trip we had! On the other hand it’s great to be back home where burgers don’t cost $18!!
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.”
