God Leads Us Along

i wanted to share with you a hymn that i’ve been enjoying lately.

i’ve heard this song often on abiding radio, but never the words until church last sunday. it’s so easy to sing a song/hymn and overlook the lyrics or the meaning behind them. so, while standing in the pew at church, i meditated on the words of this hymn and noticed how applicable it is to my life lately. i find that The Lord often uses hymns and songs to reveal things to us in a personal way that can so easily be disregarded unless we look for them.

so here is favorite “hymn of the moment”:

“In shady, green pastures, so rich and so sweet,
God leads His dear children along;
Where the water’s cool flow bathes the weary one’s feet,
God leads His dear children along.
Refrain:
Some through the waters, some through the flood,
Some through the fire, but all through the blood;
Some through great sorrow, but God gives a song,
In the night season and all the day long.
Sometimes on the mount where the sun shines so bright,
God leads His dear children along;
Sometimes in the valley, in darkest of night,
God leads His dear children along.
Though sorrows befall us and evils oppose,
God leads His dear children along;
Through grace we can conquer, defeat all our foes,
God leads His dear children along.
Away from the mire, and away from the clay,
God leads His dear children along;
Away up in glory, eternity’s day,
God leads His dear children along.”

there are definitely times when i feel like i’m going “through the flood”, and i look around and see someone who is going “through the waters”. i love how this hymn touches on the fact that some will indeed go through the “floods” in life…but God leads us through…always.

“Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth,
burst into jubilant song with music;”

~Psalm 98:4
