Fall Break in CA
so in az we start school in early august and take a week break in october. i didn’t realize not many states have a fall break but i guess it makes sense considering they usually start school in september. anyway, even though we homeschool, we often follow the local public school’s breaks and took last week off of school! we decided to head to cali with my cousin for a few days of fun! we had a blast between knot’s berry farm, the beach, and random fun things along the way…
the adventure began as we drove to pick up our cousin tyler last sunday then attended some friends’ church about an hour from home. after church we began the 5-6 hour commute to california.
about, i don’t know, 3 hours into the trip, we were in blythe and didn’t realize the exit we had just passed would be our last for many miles. oh and we also didn’t realize our gas tank was a few short miles from being empty. so we kind of panicked. we immediately turned off the a/c (it was 90 something degrees out!) and music and i texted my friend to pray for us. it was that serious. we even began to count the distance between call boxes on the highway. we passed an exit that was said to be the last one for 30 miles after realizing the gas station was abandoned. a few minutes later after praying and while singing amazing grace, we came upon an exit…WITH A GAS STATION! such an answer to prayer. after filling up on fuel, we discovered that we had had only two miles of gas left. two.
sometimes the Lord allows these situations to test our patience.
if we remain faithful, He will too.
we reached our hotel around 7 pm and walked down the street to farrell’s ice cream parlor/restaraunt for a treat! this place was superb.
they had a gift shop by the door with all sorts of goodies-including bacon cotton candy.
in the morning, after breakfast, we walked to knott’s berry farm, which was up the street, and spent the day there.
here is a video i recorded while riding one of the coasters making sure to hold my phone very tightly.
the next day we checked out of the hotel with the intentions of finding a beach to go to.
while driving, my dad called up one of his old friends from the air force who live in the los angeles area. we ended up visiting him at his work-the l.a. police department!!
he gave us a tour which was so cool! especially because we saw real criminals sitting on what’s called “the bench”.
next, we traveled to redondo beach and spent a couple hours on the shore.
there were tons of birds around and, i don’t know about you, but, when we see a flock of birds, we chase them.
there were these tiny birds that would walk along the sand then run super fast when the tide came up. it was really amusing to watch.
on wednesday, we completed our trip by visiting the ronald reagan library in simi valley.
outside the museum was reagan’s memorial and burial site.
the whole trip was a blast and we made some great memories!
on a side note i recently tried out a new design for my nails and wanted to share :)
i basically love different patterns and colors and always enjoy finding new ways to do my nails. just something random that i’ve experimented with lately!
