Bright Lights Banquet
recently, we had a lesson in bright lights about gratitude. when discussing the importance of expressing appreciation to others, we decided to throw a banquet for the families of all the girls. this was also a great opportunity to convey all that we have learned throughout the past couple of years. so the date was set for thursday june 12.
to make preparation a lot more organized, we divided the tasks into four main committees: decorating, program, music, and food. stephanie, elise, zakia, and myself headed up the groups and were able to lead the girls to prepare for the event. we counted about 74 people on the guest list and quickly realized our house was just a little too small…thankfully after prayer, we were able to schedule the event to be at our church! i must say it went so incredibly well due to the Lord’s blessing. at first, i was worried we might forget the slightest detail, but then followed philippians 4:6 and marched on!
the girls showed up at 3 or 4 in the afternoon and we were heads down in preparation until the starting time of 6:30.
we arranged for some of the girls to play music during the meal, give testimonies, play instruments, and even a skit!
many of us made the centerpieces and even some conversation starters at each table.
some of the older girls and i sang “the secret place” and we finished the night with the whole group singing “bright lights”.
near the end of the production, emma gave a beautiful bouquet of flowers and a card signed by all of us to kerry.
honestly, i wouldn’t have changed a thing about the banquet. it all went so well and i loved getting to know some of the girls better as we worked together in this.
